We have 2 Robotics clubs at Zillmere State School – Junior and Senior - which are run in conjunction with the Queensland University of Technology.
After school workshops offer students hands on workshops where participants are encouraged to think for themselves and collaborate with one another. These workshops aim to allow students to gain confidence in solving problems, exchange ideas with others and present their work in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Lego MINDSTORMS NXT are the kits used in the sessions. The robot is an intelligent, computer-controlled Lego brick that lets the robot come alive and perform different operations. The software enables students to program their robotic invention and upload programs to the NXT via USB in our computer laboratory.
Robotics teaches students how to think conceptionally, then break concepts down into design, development, testing and implementation.
RoboCup competitions, where students show off their robot creations are held across Australia and overseas. students design and build robots that dance, play soccer or take part in rescue scenarios.
