Class music

Each week students receive 40 minutes of music/arts education.  Music/arts is run as a sequenced learning program starting in Prep and continuing until the end of Year 6.

By the time a students graduates from Zillmere State School, they will have knowledge and skills of singing, reading music, composition, improvisation, movement, performance, percussion instruments and ukulele.  There is a strong focus on enjoyment and continuous improvement in all lessons.

How does music education benefit my child?

Music assists in developing a child's self-confidence, teamwork skills, awareness of own and other cultures, literacy, numeracy, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, imagination, expression and confidence in front of an audience.

Music education is one of the essential elements in providing all students with a diverse and complete school education.

Instrumental music program

In 2020 we are once again offering our students the opportunity to learn an instrument in the Instrumental Music Program. Instruments such as Clarinet,  Bass Clarinet Flute, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, and Percussion instruments (drums and percussion keyboards ie: Glockenspiel, Xylophone) are available for hire from the school at the VERY reasonable price of $40 per year. (most music shops charge around $40 per month for these instruments!).

Lessons are free but there is a fee of $50 per year (in addition to the hire fee if your child is hiring a school instrument) to go towards upkeep/maintenance and music requirements that your child will need.

There are still several instruments available for students from  Years 4-6 to learn at the school, so if you would like your child to learn an instrument, and if they are willing to devote the amount of time required for their practise, then please contact the school office on 3863 8333.
